Glacial Stream

90% of the water that flows into Iceland's largest lake comes from glacial melt that filters slowly through porous volcanic rock. This is a picture of one of these glacial inflows. The water is very clear, stays at about 2-3 degrees Celsius year round, and is deceptively deep. The sparkly areas are mostly coins that people have thrown in. This water is probably 30 or more feet deep. Our tour guide said that diving and snorkeling in this area was not for those subject to vertigo since one could suddenly across 100-meter deep fissures and see all the way to the bottom.
