Oy! He's Gone Walkabout!
On the evening of 20 September 2007, I took a two hour walk around St. Petersburg including the Troika Bridge over the Nevsky, Letnii Sad, Peter and Paul Fortress, the Strelka, and back to my hotel. Here are some pictures from my walk.
Museum Day
Here are some pictures of my 2nd tour of the Hermitage and my tour of the Russian National Museum in St. Petersburg from 20 September.
Leningrad Siege Tour
Here are some pictures from my guided tour of St. Petersburg locations related to the Siege of Leningrad in WWII. Included in the tour was a visit to the biggest Leningrad mass cemetery.
Catherine's Palace
Here are some pictures from my visit to Catherine's Palace. It's located in the town of Pushkin near St. Petersburg. Note: the palace is named after Peter the Great's 2nd wife, not Catherine the Great.
Санкт-Петербург!
On Monday, 17 September, I flew from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Here are some pictures from my first two days in the former imperial capital of Peter the Great.
Красная Площадь Закрыта Сегодня!
(Translation: Red Square closed today).
The first picture is as close to Lenin's tomb as I could get. The next picture is of scaffolding around his tomb. And the bottom picture is as much of St. Basil's as I could see.
